Children’s Courer de Mardi Gras

The 2018 Children’s Courer de Mardi Gras is pictured here, hosted by the Teche Center for the Arts in Breaux Bridge. A courir de Mardi Gras is a traditional celebration of the holiday handed down through generations of Cajuns. The festivities includes a costumed romp through the community featuring traditional Cajun music and dancing, chicken chasing, and begging for ingredients for the evening’s gumbo to accompany the chicken. This South Louisiana tradition is over 150 years old.
